Newest book published

"OUTSIDE THE CROWD"

I am happy to announce the publication of the sequel to "GRAVEL DUST AND DREAMS," a second chapbook, this one titled, "OUTSIDE THE CROWD." The first book, a book of narrative poems from my birth to age 11, is continued in the new book. Here, the farm boy moves to Indianapolis, a life changing jolt. It continues through marriage. Together, these two books of childhood and coming-of-age, comprise 59 poems. They should be read together.

Either book is available by mail, $10.00 each plus postage. Email your order to jaharco2004@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Jim

Book Sales Progressing

I've dispensed about three dozen books, and sales will continue with my trip to Denver and the attendance at the Association of Writers and Writer's Programs there in mid-April. From there I will go to the annual conference of the Missouri Writer's Guild in Chesterfield, Mo. In late April I will be in Savannah, MO at the First Christian Church there for an afternoon reading, release party and book sales. I've already received an order for a book from a dear friend there. Many other opportunities are being planned. I still have books on hand. Remember, for mail order, simply send me a check for $10.88 to 3809 Bedford Dr., Columbia, MO 65203. Thanks. -Jim

Memoirs

Tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 6th, I give a program at the Daniel Boone Regional Library, at 10:30 a.m. on "Get Started Writing Your Memoirs." Come if you can. I've worked on my own memoirs off and on for the last 8 years. First, I did a 50,000 word first draft, still unfinished, of my first 29 years. Twenty-nine vignettes over 29 years. Even though a single memoir has not been finished, two books of poetry have mostly come out of that first effort and numerous published essays and single poems have. So, you don't have to ever finish, if you have a well you can continue going back to!

Savannah Reading snowed out!

Wow, what a snow they had in Savannah and nearby St. Joseph! My first scheduled reading was snowed out. I'm working with the people there to re-schedule, so watch for the new date.

Montserrat Poetry Festival, May 23rd

Great news. Tonight I learned my application had been accepted to read at the Montserrat Poetry Festival near Warrensburg, MO on May 23rd. There will be 15 or 16 readers (judging by last year) including the Missouri Poet Laureate, Walter Bargen. I am quite excited.

Reading in Church - Jan. 24th

Here is a picture Jan took of me reading in our church as part of the morning
sermon. Our minister, Tim Carson, included my poem,
Corn, in his sermon to indicate "You can't go home." The
text for the morning was Jesus' rejection in Nazareth, his
boyhood home, when he tried to go back.

Ideas for a book of prayers

A minister friend of mine, upon hearing my prayers at the communion table continues to insist that I try to publish a book of my prayers. Does anyone have an idea of how this might be formatted, who it would be aimed at, and who might publishe such a volume. I love the idea, I even could use daily writings of prayers as a kind of daily devotion, but I need some ideas. Do you have any? Thanks. Jim
